JOB TITLE:

Technical Services Student Assistant

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The following minimum requirements are established for the position of Technical Services Student Assistant:

  1. Free time to work a minimum of 5 hours per week (Mon. – Fri., 8 am – 4 pm).
  2. Interest in library work and willingness to perform various types of work.
  3. Ability to work with accuracy and attention to details.
  4. Dependable work habits.
  5. Ability to quickly arrange workload in order to deal with competing priorities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Familiarity with computers and computer applications.
  2. Experience with online library catalogs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technical Services Student Assistant is responsible to the Technical Services Staff for daily activities.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Checking in periodicals on an automated system.
  2. Inserting library identification and security strips into materials received by the library.
  3. Checking in newspapers.
  4. Shelf reading, filing, and shifting periodicals, microfilm and microfiche collections.
  5. Sorting/routing book notification forms.
  6. Searching the book stacks for duplicate copies of gifts.
  7. Searching a variety of databases for bibliographic information.
  8. Unpacking/sorting new acquisitions or bindery shipments.
  9. Labeling and pasting materials.
  10. Filing and pulling shelflist cards.
  11. Maintaining OCLC printout files.
  12. Matching workslips and books.
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
