Interlibrary Loan Assistant - Job Description


Position: Interlibrary Loan Assistant
Reports to: Interlibrary Loan Supervisor
Department: Library
Salary Grade: Tier I
FSLA Status: Non-exempt


The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Assistant is responsible for supporting the ILL supervisor with the processing of Interlibrary Loan materials and the updating and maintenance of ILL records. Other duties are to be performed as assigned by the ILL Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Open and sort the ILL Department mail
  • Process borrowed ILL items received via mail and electronic methods
  • Process borrowed ILL items returned by patrons
  • Process requests for Hoover Library owned items
  • Retrieve requested Hoover Library owned items from the stacks
  • Scan articles requested from Hoover Library owned items and ship electronically to other libraries
  • Package and ship returnable, hard copy, ILL items to other libraries
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to focus in a busy and sometimes distracting environment
  • Computer literate, with data entry experience preferred
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Customer service focused
  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to do multiple tasks throughout the day
  • Must be punctual, dependable and able to work without direct supervision

Physical Characteristics:

This position requires sitting for long periods of time, as well as some bending, stooping, reaching and lifting of books and packages not more than 10 lbs.  A lot of finger/hand dexterity is involved in regards to keyboarding and retrieving items off of shelves.  The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
