Research Process in a Nutshell

If you would like help with any stage in the research process, please do not hesiate to ask one of the helpful librarians!

1. DEFINE YOUR TOPIC

  • What are you looking for?  State your topic as a question.

2. CHOOSE A SEARCH TOOL

  • Where should you look?  Article databases, online catalog, google scholar, google, etc.

3. FORMULATE A SEARCH

  • How do you construct an effective search?  Keywords, AND, OR, etc.

4. EVALUATE YOUR RESULTS

  • Which results are most appropriate for your topic?  Scholarly, relevent, etc.
  • Ask Questions of your results:
    • Who?
    • What?
    • Where?
    • Why?
    • When?
    • So What?

Rinse and Repeat!
