Research Process in a Nutshell
1. DEFINE YOUR TOPIC
What are you looking for? State your topic as a question.
2. DETERMINE TYPES OF INFORMATION NEEDED
What types of sources will provide the information you need to answer your topic question? Books, articles, etc.
3. CHOOSE A SEARCH TOOL
Where is the best place to look for the types of information you need? Article databases, online catalog, google scholar, etc. (see below for options)
4. FORMULATE A SEARCH
Which key words from your topic question would make good words to search? Do a search and see what words experts are using on the same topic and try different words to get different results.
5. EVALUATE YOUR RESULTS
Which results are most appropriate for your topic? Scholarly, relevant, etc.
