How to Browse

The Hoover's collection is browsable by subject areas, each of which is marked by specific call numbers. Books relating to African American Studies are generally found using the following call number ranges (i.e. the book's number starts with these):

305.8 Racism
305.896 African Americans and Social Aspects
322.4 Political Action Groups
323 Civil and Political Rights
326 Slavery and Emancipation
371.829 African Americans and Education
973.0496 African Americans in American History

Most of these books can be found on the first floor of the Library.

You can find the books you are looking for by locating the tag on the end of each book shelf that indicates the number range of the books on that shelf. So, if you are looking for books on civil rights just find the book shelf that contains books in the 323s.
