The expanded and renovated library designed by the Hillier Group and erected by Henry Lewis Contractors, Inc. was dedicated on October 13, 1991 and named for Dr. Samuel H. and Elsie W. Hoover. The 5 story library houses over 378,000 volumes, which in our partnership with Carroll Community College and the Carroll County Public Library, provides access to over 946,000 volumes. This includes 133,000 ebooks and 25,000 streaming videos. The library subscribes to approximately 70 databases and over 38,000 print and electronic journals. For more details on library statistics, see our Annual Report.
There are 73,895 square feet in the building which provides 507 seats, ample desk space, 6 group study rooms, and 2 group technology rooms that may be reserved by students at the circulation desk. For more details about study and work spaces in the library, see our FAQ entries for Study Spaces.
The library is open approximately 95 hours per week during the regular semester and offers extended hours during exams. Located inside the lobby of the building are Caseys' Corner and the Charlson Computer Lab. During regular semesters the 1st and 2nd floors are open as a late night study hall from 1 AM - 8 AM, Sunday through Thursday.
