LibGuides Standards & Best Practices: Reusing Content

Reusing Content

Almost all content in the LibGuides system can be reused. This allows us to create content once, and any updates to the original content will automatically be applied to all copies.

When adding a page, box, link, video, or other content, check first to see if it already exists.

Many pages and content items for reuse are available on our LibGuide Reusable Content guide.

Duplicate or Map?

By default, items you reuse will be mapped, which means that you can only edit the content in the original. In some cases you may want to duplicate the item instead in order to customize the content for a specific need. The following content items should NOT be duplicated:

  • Books from the catalog
  • Databases
  • Links
  • Widgets
  • Documents

If you want to use a different description, or no description, of the item you can enter a different description to be displayed on your guide.

Items on the LibGuide Reusable Content guide should not be duplicated.
