Faculty Services: GOBI

General Information

GOBI is a database of over 2 million titles from the US, UK, and around the world. New titles and information updates are added to GOBI continuously, every day. GOBI is the library's primary ordering platform for print materials and eBooks, and is owned by EBSCO.

GOBI has the following features:

  • GobiAlerts: Receive weekly or monthly email alerts designed to notify teaching faculty and other selectors of newly published titles. Customizable, the alerts are defined by subject area in combination with other parameters.
  • If available, the following reviews will be included in the title’s listing: Booklist, Choice, E-STREAMS, Library Journal, Publishers Weekly.
  • Other useful information included: Table of contents, Book jacket, YBP Select recommendations, Subjects and Interdisciplinary topics.
  • GOBI also develops curated lists of recommended titles in many disciplines.
  • Help on the GOBI system is here: https://www.gobi3.com/staticcontent/gobicontent/ybp/private/help/pages/index.htm (does not require login)

*NOTE: Use of GOBI services requires an individual account be set up. Please contact Peggy Klinge by email at pklinge@mcdaniel.edu or your department’s liaison if you are interested in using GOBI. We are happy to provide one-on-one assistance to get you started with GOBI.

How to Send Requests to the Library

  • GOBI Search: Email the review(s) to pklinge@mcdaniel.edu or your department’s liaison and type in your department as the Subject (ex. Art Dept. Order). If there are any special ordering instructions, please type them in the “Message” box.
  • GobiAlerts: Click on the link in your alert email, select title(s), and choose “Recommend.” These are saved in a folder in Gobi from which library staff can place orders.
