Publons (formerly ResearcherID) is a free scheme operated by the publisher Thomson Reuters which assigns a unique identifier to each author who joins. Through Publons, Thomson Reuters aims to standardize and clarify author names and ensure that citations are properly attributed and easier to find.
With Publons you can:
- manage your publication profile;
- track your citation counts and h-index;
- identify potential collaborators from around the globe;
- create a personal publications URL to showcase your work.
Your Publons information integrates with the Web of Science database for improved accuracy. There are also connection options for ORCID and LinkedIN which allow for import/export of citation data.
